Scale is the enemy of Italian coffee machines. Prevention is better than cure so consider protecting the internals of your coffee machine with a water filtration system.

Domestic water filters do not remove charges ions that cause scale. To remove these you need a filtration system with deionising resin technology. The Brita C150 Purity FINEST is my recommendation.
